Colt Technology Services, owner of a global fiberoptic network, delivers fast, secure and fully managed connectivity to its customers. “In the past, we mainly worked with SDH and low-bandwidth Ethernet. Today, SDH has virtually disappeared, and we operate Ethernet connections up to 400Gb. The risks we need to manage are constantly evolving as well. Reliable network testers that give us insight in every situation are therefore absolutely essential,” says Peter van Maurik, Lead Technician at Colt Technology Services.

Test reports
“To demonstrate at handover that the connections we built are stable, that the agreed bandwidths are achieved and that everything remains reliable under load, we’ve relied on test solutions, first under the name Sunrise, later VeEX, for more than 20 years. The VeEX tester automatically generates a test report that we can share internally or with the customer,” Peter explains.
“This test report is also crucial when troubleshooting. It can prove that the issue is not on our side, or indicate exactly where we can resolve it. Of course, we prefer the first option—but the second is just as valuable for us and for our customers,” Peter adds with a smile.

What makes VeEX unique
For reading, testing and certifying our fibre networks, we almost exclusively use VeEX equipment. Every technician has one.

“The TX300 is like a Swiss Army knife: you can test virtually any cable with it, it always works and it’s extremely robust. Because VeEX does exactly what it’s designed to do, we can pinpoint any issue with precision,” says Peter.

The cloud
“What’s also very well organised at VeEX is that all the licences we purchase—such as Fibre Channel and i4IP services—are stored in the cloud. Anyone in our company, anywhere in the world, can use these licences and afterwards release them for the next technician. That saves us a significant amount of money,” Peter adds.
The tester automatically stores all test data on the R-server. This data is then automatically linked to a Colt order, making it immediately available for order management. This keeps our process smooth, fast and transparent.

The benefit of working with Heynen
Heynen is always easy to reach. “If we have a question, we simply call or send an email. They take the time to understand our challenge and respond accordingly, and they connect us with experts if they don’t immediately have the answer themselves.
Recently, we took part in a training programme tailored specifically to our technicians. Even though I’ve been working with VeEX for decades, I still learned new things. And of course, it was also very valuable for our newest colleagues. We’ve been working together with Heynen for nearly a quarter of a century. And as far as we’re concerned, many more years will follow.”
