Spectrum Control Voltage Controlled Oscillators for Military, Aerospace and Hi-Rel Applications

Spectrum Control Voltage Controlled Oscillators for Military, Aerospace and Hi-Rel Applications

A large part of the electronic devices you use in your everyday life, including cell phones, TVs and radios, are made up out of a combination of analog and digital components. For all signals to operate effectively we need periodic oscillating singals that convert the slow analog signals to get them ready for transmission over long distances. That is the function of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO).

Whenever the equipment is exposed to extreme conditions or harsch environment like in military or aerospace applications, this function gets even more important. In these situations it is vital that the signals are transmitted in a reliable manner.

The Spectrum Control range of highly linear connectorized Voltage Controlled Oscillators provides excellent phase noise performance in a hermetically sealed package. The result is a compact, rugged design suitable for most severe environmental conditions found in military, space and other hi-rel applications.

Spectrum Control manufacture the varactor diodes themselves in-house and afterwards carefully selects them. This provides linear monotonic tuning characteristics requiring only simple external driver circuits and offers the possibility for complete customization. Furthermore, the use of top-quality thermistors on all of their designs adds increased temperature stability.

The range of VCOs is constructed using a discrete chip device integrated onto a conventional alumina substrate, packaged into a machined housing. These packages are then hermetically sealed using a laser welding process. This compact, rugged construction allows for simple installation on either through hole or surface mount PCB.

The wide range of possibilities ensures that we can help your project along, whether it is low phase noise or high power so do not hesitate to challenge us and send in your questions.
