Inmet Cryo Attenuators for Quantum Computers

Inmet Cryo Attenuators for Quantum Computers
The Quantum computing revolution will bring massive change to our understanding of the world by analyzing amounts of data that even the most powerful supercomputers of today cannot handle. Where traditional technologies use bits, these quantum computers use quantum bits (also called qubits). In order to be 'read' the qubits must be as isolated as can be from interference of any kind.

In the process cryogenic chambers bring down the temperature to as much as 4 mK (milli Kelvin).This requires refrigeration systems and a large number of RF cables of significant length, all of which cause thermal noise that affects the 'cleanliness' of the qubit.

The elimination of thermal noise and challenge of this harsh environment are not solved easily and asks for a level of expertise that is not in reach of many. The experience of Inmet by Spectrum Control (formerly known as APItech) in delivering custom solutions for tough environments and high reliabililty are the base to support cryogenic technology.

By mounting Inmet 9102 Series attenuator in multiple stages we can combat the thermal noise. The key to success of this attenuator is the in-house resistor fabrication process that makes use of optimized material and substrates. The mechanical design avoids self-heating to offer a 'thermally quiet' attenuator at mK temperatures.

Below are some features of the attenuators;
  • Gold plated beryllium copper conductors
  • DC - 18 GHz, 2 Watts
  • Available db values of 0, 3, 6, 10, 20 db
  • Proprietary thin film resistor material
  • Operating temperature down to 20mK
Heynen has much more to offer when it comes to solutions for quantum computing and cryogenic chambers. If you would like some more information on this topic, do not forget to contact our product specialists.
