Check out the new range of Ultra-Low Noise Oscillator modules (XMU Series) by Alaris Linwave

Innovation, skills and experience was the foundation to the development of world-class multiplied crystal oscillator modules developed by the R&D team at Alaris Linwave. Featuring more than 50 years of oscillator and RF design expertise, the new XMU series saw the light.

The oscillator modules consist of a frequency-multiplied crystal oscillator and offer industry-leading phase noise performance. Output frequencies can be in the range 200MHz to 12GHz with output power up to 16dBm. The output frequency and power level are customised for each application.

Oscillator modules play a critical role in various advanced electronic systems by providing highly stable and low-phase-noise reference signals. Typical applications include master reference clocks for high-speed ADC or DAC systems or quantum computing applications. The module is also suitable for radar systems and high-performance test and measurement systems.

Here’s a more detailed look at their applications in the mentioned contexts:

Master Reference Clocks for High-Speed ADC or DAC Systems

  • High-speed Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog Converters (DAC) require precise and low-jitter clock signals to maintain signal integrity and minimize noise in signal processing applications.
  • These modules are essential in applications such as software-defined radios, high-resolution imaging, and communication systems, where precision and accuracy are paramount.
  • The low phase noise characteristics of high-quality oscillator modules help reduce timing errors, ensuring better data conversion performance.

Quantum Computing Applications

  • Quantum computing relies on precise timing and synchronization for qubit control and readout operations.
  • Oscillator modules provide ultra-stable clock signals essential for controlling microwave pulses used in superconducting qubits.
  • Their role in reducing phase noise and jitter is crucial to maintaining coherence times and improving overall computational accuracy in quantum systems.

Radar Systems

  • Radar applications demand highly stable frequency sources to enable accurate target detection, tracking, and imaging.
  • The oscillator module serves as a key component in the local oscillator chain, ensuring signal stability in applications such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR), automotive radar, and military surveillance systems.
  • Low phase noise is particularly important for Doppler radar applications, as it enhances the resolution and sensitivity of the system.

High-Performance Test and Measurement Systems

  • Precision test and measurement equipment, such as signal analysers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analysers, rely on high-quality oscillator modules for accurate frequency synthesis and signal generation.
  • These modules help ensure highly accurate measurements in RF and microwave testing, reducing measurement uncertainty and improving system performance.
  • Applications include semiconductor testing, communications equipment evaluation, and metrology.

By providing a stable and precise frequency reference, oscillator modules enhance the performance and reliability of these advanced systems across various industries.

Alaris Linwave has a world-renowned status for supplying cutting-edge RF & mWave sub-systems to customers all over the world. By incorporating expertise in a wide range of disciplines we are able to provide custom solutions to a vast variety of applications.

The latest avenue of R & D from Alaris Linwave was to explore ultra-low phase noise oscillators and clock units. Market and customer requirements showed a clear demand for low phase noise references to be used within an array of applications. Therefore, an internally funded project was launched to push Linwave towards cutting edge performance. From this, Alaris Linwave is pleased to announce their latest range of world-class multiplied crystal oscillator modules - the XMU series.

Featuring in excess of 50 years of oscillator and RF design expertise, the XMU series shows the ultimate combination of skills and knowledge to allow for the series to offer both an off-the-shelf and custom solutions with unparalleled phase performance. The XMU series can be customised to offer any fixed frequency solution between 200MHz and 12GHz, with further customisation options available.
