Knowles DSM Supercapacitor Modules Now Available in 60V

Knowles DSM Supercapacitor Modules Now Available in 60V

Knowles’ DSM supercapacitor modules use EDLC cells in series to expand energy storage capacity across a broader voltage range. Their instant charge and discharge capabilities outperform batteries, but without the shipping restrictions, thermal runaway risks, or much shorter lifespans associated with lithium-ion technology.

DSM supercapacitor modules, shown in Figure 1, can be used in place of, or in parallel with batteries to extend system life and performance.

Knowles is expanding the DSM series with the addition of a 60V/18amp option, providing engineers with greater design flexibility. The DSM series is designed for fast, safe integration into new or existing systems. Each module features:

  • Voltage options from 9Vdc to 60Vdc and capacitance values from 0.075F to 36.6F
  • Integrated passive cell balancing to ensure uniform cell voltage
  • Cable assemblies with Molex Mini-Lock connectors, a plug-and-play solution for rapid prototyping and production deployment
  • Wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +65°C (extended to +85°C at derated voltages).
  • RoHS and REACH Compliance with UL 810A recognized cells
  • Low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and high current capability in pulse power and demanding load applications
  • Long lifecycle of 500,000+ charge/discharge cycles

Higher voltage DSM supercapacitor modules enable engineers to meet power requirements without the complex series wiring of multiple lower-voltage units. This reduces design time, minimizes connection points, and improves overall reliability. The 60V models are particularly suited for 48V bus applications.

Applications for Knowles DSM 60V Supercapacitor Modules include, but are not limited to:

  • Factory automation and robotics
  • UPS systems and emergency lighting
  • AGVs, personal EVs, and material handling equipment
  • Medical systems
  • Valve actuators and control systems
  • Pulsed power applications (e.g., gates, doors, HVAC)
  • GPS, telematics, and tracking systems
  • Solar lighting and energy harvesting/storage solutions

With the new 60V option, the DSM series continues to offer engineers a straightforward, off-the-shelf solution for both high-energy and high-power demands.
