Pole-Zero Improves its Best in Class Manufacturing

In 1989, a father-and-son team of electrical engineers saw a growing niche market opportunity for highspeed digitally tunable radio frequency (RF) filters for communication applications. They decided to take their years of experience and start what would very quickly become the global leader in RF tunable filtering solutions. Fast forwarding to today, Pole/ Zero Corporation is celebrating its 30th anniversary of providing superior products, outstanding quality, and unrivaled customer support.

“What began as a garage shop with two employees has turned into the organization we have today with nearly 200 team members and growing. We have had six expansions between moves and additions, now operating across 90,000 square feet headquartered in West Chester, Ohio,” says Vice President and General Manager Ron Ruppersburg.

Pole/Zero’s primary market presence is still in the design and manufacturing of these high-performance tunable RF filter products that help solve some of the most difficult communication problems in today’s congested environments. Pole/Zero has solutions deployed across the entire spectrum of military platforms, from ground communication base stations, tactical vehicular applications, UAV payloads, maritime warships, and large airborne command and control platforms. This connection to the industry is what drives much of Pole/Zero’s culture and focus. “Our people see the need for our products in the industry and how they are serving the end-user and keeping, for example, the war fighter out of harm’s way by having a clear line of communication,” says Paul Walpole, supply chain director.

Dover Corporation, a diversified global business with annual revenues of $7 billion, acquired Pole /Zero in 2007. Today, Pole/Zero is part of the Microwave Product Group (MPG) operating company within the Dover Engineered Systems segment. MPG also includes K&L Microwave and Dow-Key Microwave in the US, as well as BSC Filters based in the United Kingdom. Pole/Zero’s addition to Dover family, and the MPG business, only further strengthened their ability to meet customer needs by achieving exceptional growth in both capabilities and service.

  • Co-Site Interference in Control & Command Communication

Command & Control (C2) platforms require multiple RF communications channels to ensure force coordination over long distances. Quite often these critical communication requirements are not met due to self-generated or cosite interference that severely degrades communication range. To ensure this does not happen to your platform, Pole/Zero® can provide a comprehensive evaluation of your platform’s communication performance level, enabling peak operation even in the most dense electromagnetic environments.

Our mission is to assist RF communcations integrators in fielding first time successes.

  • Dow-Key Microwave Miniature MS series

Dow-Key Microwave introduces the next generation of switch matrices: the Miniature MS series (or MMS series). MMS is ideal for test and measurement requirements. The series is equipped with high-performance Reliant Switches™ providing 0.03 dB insertion loss repeatability across DC to 26.5 GHz with minimum 10 million life cycles for SPDT and 5 million for SP6T. MMS is suitable for many applications where RF switches are needed, including extensive DUT testing. The series needs 12VDC power supply with switches controlled remotely via TCP/IP Ethernet and HTTP-Server; a built-in “Sequencer” feature allows the user to program up to ten 500-step sequence programs. A VAC-to-DC adapter is included. (RF cables are not.)
